We bought our first plane ticket the other day with Club Z points. Who would have ever thought shopping at Zellers would help us get around the world!
Dean will be leaving early in August to drive from Ottawa to Edmonton on his own. Dean has never driven across the Prairies and it is certainly something that everyone should do once. However, we decided that now is not the time for Campbell and Kelly to experience that part of the country. Being in the car for hours on end, without a lot to look at, would not be a good way to start our trip. So, Campbell, Kelly and Judy will fly from Ottawa to Edmonton on August 21 and will meet Dean there. Kelly is thrilled to be starting a world tour at the biggest shopping mall in Canada. We won't need our hiking boots for this leg of the trip, but I'm sure it will be a good introduction to the amount of walking we will be doing over the course of 5 months. I have no doubt we will find something to entertain Campbell while Kelly checks out each and every store. Kelly has been warned that whatever she decides to buy, she will have to carry on her back for 5 months. I'm hoping that will be somewhat of a deterrent, but I could be wrong.

It's a go
“Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it – but sail we must and not drift nor lay at anchor.” Oliver Wendell Holmes
For some time, we have been talking about a world trip for our family. After much discussion, and input from all, we have decided to head off on our world tour in August 2008 and return in January 2009. Our original plan was to travel for a full year, but we are all very content to shorten our trip to just over 5 months. Our timing will allow Campbell to play baseball this summer, we’ll be back in time for Campbell and Kelly to go to school for the second semester of next year, and Kelly will be home in time to start rehearsals for Showcase 2009. So, without missing anything that is important to us, we will have a chance to see some of the world. We have a lot to do between now and August. We will keep you posted as our plans unfold.
