We decided to have some contact cards made up to give to people as we travel. It proved to be rather difficult to get us all together with Campbell in something other than his baseball uniform. However, we managed and here is the photo we have chosen to put on one side of our cards. On the other side, we will put the Canadian flag, our names and address and the blogsite. Hopefully we will hand out a lot of cards and be able to keep in touch with the people we meet.

Flexibility is the key
We have tried to keep in mind the importance of flexibility when planning and embarking on our world tour. One can never be absolutely certain that a train will arrive on time, or even leave the station at all. Flights may be delayed, reservations lost and wrong turns taken. So our plans have some built in contingency strategies just in case. However, I must admit that I didn't plan on needing a lot of flexibility prior to leaving North America. There's where I went wrong. Our first change of plans is our means of travel within North America. The insurance company did in fact write off the van, so we are now trying to figure out Plan B. It looks like we may end up taking my car and having someone drive it home from San Francisco. I guess that means I should take off the snow tires!! Our second change of plans is with regard to Dean's departure date. Dean had originally planned on leaving Ottawa about August 12 to take a leisurely 2 weeks to get to Edmonton to pick up the kids and I on August 21. Well, that may need to change as well. Campbell has been invited to try out for an Ontario Summer Games baseball team. If Campbell makes the team, he will be participating in the Summer Games in Ottawa from August 14 - 17. Dean would certainly like to be a part of this wonderful sporting event and chear Campbell and his team to victory...or at least see them win a game or two. This would mean Dean wouldn't get on the road until the evening of August 17 at the earliest.
