cycling in Yangshao
There was only so much relaxing we could do, so we decided to rent bicycles from the resort and head out to see the countryside.
The bikes we rented actually had gears and decent seats so we were anxious to get on the road even if it was drizzling a bit.
Not too far from the resort, we came across the community wharf. It was a busy and colourful spot with hundreds of bamboo rafts that are used for commerce and well as tourism on the Li River.
About half an hour into our tour, Kelly's seat (bike seat) needed an allen key, which of course we did not have. With some well choreographed sign language, we were able to find the local repair shop and shortly thereafter the local repair shop mechanic. For a few cents, Kelly's seat was fixed and we were on the road again.
The scenery along the way was beautiful. The trail for this part of the trip was very nice, reasonably smooth and easy to follow.
Our destination was the Dragon Bridge. This is the view from atop the bridge.
The last part of the trail leading up to the Dragon Bridge was not quite as nice and easy as the beginning. We actually had to walk a bit as the trail was too muddy and too rocky. You can tell from Kelly's face that she was a bit less than impressed, but she persevered as always.
We followed the river back to the resort on the opposite bank. It looked a bit like rush hour on the river.
We were wet and tired and mighty dirty by the time we headed back to the resort. But, on the whole, it was a great bike ride and some amazing scenery. It got us away from our books for the day as well.
