We had a wonderful flight from Cape Town to Buenos Aires on December 31. However, after 9 hours on a plane and a 4 hour time change, we weren't really in the mood to party in the new year. We got settled into our hostal and decided how to ring in the new year.

Well, our partying was reduced to a beer in bed and then we were asleep by about 10:00. I did consider getting up just before midnight to find out how the party was going in the common room of the hostel, but before I could make up my mind, I had fallen asleep again.

The good news is that we were up early on January 1, while the rest of the hostal was VERY quiet. The not-so-good news is that there is nothing open in Buenos Aires on New Years Day. After wandering the streets for about an hour looking for breakfast, we finally found a small corner cafe where we managed to find coffee and croissants. The rest of the day, we walked around town seeing the sights.

The architecture in the city is absolutely beautiful. Every building is a work of art in itself. There are beautiful plazas and parks and plenty to see.

We eventually got ourselves down to the water, where a few of the restaurants were open. We had a wonderful lunch overlooking the water.

The next day, January 2, everything was open and we went to the main shopping district. Campbell and Kelly found the best Christmas tree we have seen this season. It was in a rather upscale shopping mall where we couldn't really afford to buy anything, but the photos were free.

We spent plenty of time on Florida Street checking out the leather and cashmere shops. We could have spent a lot more time in Buenos Aires, but the next day we headed off to Puerto Madryn.
