We had a great day until Campbell and I ran into a puddle and just fell over! We were both fine, but mighty muddy. I think the mud consisted primarily of cow manure. Anyway, we gave the locals great entertainment as we passed through villages back to our hotel to have a shower and change. It was obvious that we had fallen off the bike and no one here past the age of about 2 years old does that, so we got lots of laughs along the way. After that, Kelly and I decided to stay put and do some laundry and reading while the boys went back out and got their money's worth, riding right up until 6:00 when they had to return the bikes. All in all, it was a great day and we got to see a lot off the beaten track.

Renting motorbikes in Vang Vieng
This whole trip, Campbell has wanted to rent motorcycles. Well, there have been several problems with that wish. One, in North America, 14 is not old enough to drive a motorcycle. Two, people drive on the left hand side of the road in Taiwan and Thailand. Three, everyone is South East Asia rides motorcycles or scooters and they are all maniacs on the road. When we got to Vang Vieng in Lao, we decided the time was right. They drive on the right side of the road and the roads were relatively quiet. It was a short distance to get out of town.
We sent the boys off on a test run first so they could get the feel of the bikes. Campbell looked right at home on his and I decided riding on the back with him would not be a life-threatening experience.
We drove way out into the countryside. The scenery was spectacular. I was too busy holding onto Campbell to take any photos. At one river crossing, we saw this contraption going through the river.
We had a bridge to go across the river, but none of us had the nerve to actually drive across it. The thought of fishing motorbikes out of the river just wasn't very appealing.
