"Camping" in Fort Bragg
After insisting on going on every ride imaginable at the West Edmonton Mall, the kids were almost green when we drove down the northern coast of California. Once we left Highway 101 and got onto Highway 1, our top speed was about 20 miles an hour. The roads were constant switchbacks, with plenty of up and down. Both ids had their heads hanging out the windows to get some air. The front seat wasn't a lot better, but I do think we had it better than the kids in the backseat. It is also impossible to tell from a map how slow the drive would be, so by the time we got to our destination, it was already dark. This, after we had told the kids it would likely be about a 5 hour drive today. Well, almost 10 hours later, none of us were very enthused about pitching a tent. We drove to the campsite to check it out. Although MacKerricher State Park is suppose to be one of the nicest state parks in California, it didn't tempt us in the least. So, down the road to Fort Bragg, a nice dinner, and a hotel room.
