With this sky, we didn't think we would manage to get through the day without rain. 
It didn't rain for more than about 5 minutes, but that was enough to make a real mess of the road. The ground is so hard that nothing sinks in. The water just flows off the ground onto the road and brings a whack of gravel with it. It was slow going, but this road situation only lasted about 5 miles.
